UConn...out!

I tip my hat to George Mason University. After beating Michigan State, North Carolina, and Connecticut, maybe they can take the whole tournament. Of course I'm bummed since GMU knocked out my team and now my bracket is in shambles, but it was all well worth it. And hey, my bracket survived longer than most other people...Jason, Brad, John! *cough* *cough* But whatever...

I don't really know what else to say. It's just clear to me that, from here on out, all the "little guys" are for real. GMU beat schools that won four of the last six championships! Mason did this. George Mason. The George Mason Patriots. I mean...good God!

So I got nothing else to say.

March Madness (cont.)

Oh my goodness. Did anyone see the games last night? I almost had a freakin' heart attack! Check out the latest scores and game reports here.

Duke lost to LSU! Duke won't make it to the Final Four (it screws my bracket a little bit, but well worth it)!

Texas beat West Virgina within the last few seconds of the game!!! This game was unbelievable!!!West Virgina tied the game at 71 with 5 seconds left in the game. Texas hit a 3 pointer just as time expired to win the game. Oh my goodness!!! Seriously, I think my heart might have stopped beating for a few seconds.

And, holy cow, UCLA climbs back from being down 17 points in the first half to upset Gonzaga with a final score of 71 to 73!!! That was the best game I have ever seen. Now you have to be feeling bad for Gonzaga since they controlled the entire game. But slowly buy surely, the Bruins battled their way back to upset Gonzaga.

Oh man, it was so exciting!!! Like I said, who doesn't love March?

March Madness

Who doesn't love March? I don't know, but don't bring your bad attitude around me. The weather is getting warmer (at least in theory), the sun stays out a little longer, and my birthday was a few days ago. Let’s all celebrate!

But of course, the prime reason why this stretch of the calendar is so awesome is because it provides the setting for the greatest sporting event in America and possibly the entire planet. March Madness. Screw the idiots who lament of lost productivity. I've been hearing more and more of this talk lately. These are the same people who are relieved when the holidays end so they can go back to work. Have another lump of coal there, Scrooge.

My bracket? Yeah, I filled one out. It was a tough one this year, so many of the teams are balanced. Last year only 2 of my teams made it to the Final Four and my team didn’t even win…damnit.

Well this year my picks for the Final Four are Duke vs. UCLA and UConn vs. Florida. I have UCLA upsetting Duke and UConn beating Florida. UCLA and UConn will meet in the Championship game with UConn emerging with the victory. I wanted to go with Villanova all the way since they have been fairly consistent this year, but I don't know if I can trust them to get to the Elite 8. Duke was also another close favorite to win the tournament, but with its freshman point guard being so unpredictable, they are a hard choice to pick to go all the way. UConn has been consistently in the top 5 this entire year and I think they are the team to beat. I am not a fan of Duke or UConn, but they have great records and I can’t help but pick them.

OK so that’s what I have. The Madness has begun…

Let's get it on!

Life Is Fine - Langston Hughes

I went down to the river,
I set down on the bank.
I tried to think but couldn't,
So I jumped in and sank.

I came up once and hollered!
I came up twice and cried!
If that water hadn't a-been so cold
I might've sunk and died.

But it was Cold in that water! It was cold!

I took the elevator
Sixteen floors above the ground.
I thought about my baby
And thought I would jump down.

I stood there and I hollered!
I stood there and I cried!
If it hadn't a-been so high
I might've jumped and died.

But it was High up there! It was high!

So since I'm still here livin',
I guess I will live on.
I could've died for love--
But for livin' I was born

Though you may hear me holler,
And you may see me cry--
I'll be dogged, sweet baby,
If you gonna see me die.

Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!

Senate District 8

As most San Mateo County Democrats know (or should know), the California State Senate seat for district 8 will be a highly contested race this June. For those of you who weren’t at the San Mateo County Democracy for America meeting last night and missed the one (and possibly only) candidates forum, let me just inform you that you really missed out.

The candidate’s forum featured Speaker pro Tempore Leland Yee, Former San Mateo County Supervisor Mike Nevin, and Former Assemblyman Lou Papan. Man, it really was a sight to see. I would like to elaborate on this, but knowing that I don’t have full anonymity, I will keep my lips sealed and discuss it amongst friends and in person. :)
