Halloween

Today is Halloween. Oh joy…

As most of you know, Halloween is my least favorite holiday. I blame most of my hatred for Halloween on being totally traumatized as a child. But even still, I never understood the point of Halloween. It always seemed like Halloween is merely just a free pass for people to be stupid. And everyone knows how much I hate stupid people.

Being in the City this year, makes Halloween so much worse. I plan to get the heck out as fast as humanly possible. Not only are there a ton of Halloween gatherings planned in the City, but critical mass is also tonight. This means that there are going to be crazy people out and about…all over the City. Combine all the festivities with the dreadful weather forecast…and I can only imagine the mayhem.

So here’s to a fast and speedy Halloween...and a chance to grab some cheap Halloween candy bright and early tomorrow morning. Ha!

Weekend Highlights

I had another great weekend…I’m starting to sound like a broken record. Ha! I apologize to all you faithful readers out there…I haven’t been posting anything too exciting lately huh? Well what can I say? Things have been great (busy, but great).

I’ll just provide the highlights from my weekend and won’t go into too much detail about it…since it’s just going to be me gushing over how great it was. I’m sure you’re all very excited to read about that right? Ha! But yeah, to keep a long story short, I enjoyed most of the weekend with my best buddy…hi buddy!

As for other news about me, I did something that I have been meaning to do for the last two months. I bought myself a full-sized keyboard. Yay! Yeah, I get excited over the little things in life. Hahaha. After buying my new laptop roughly three months ago, I have been meaning to get a full-sized keyboard to use while I’m sitting at my desk in my apartment. As most of you know, I’m a big fan of the old-school style keyboards…laptop keyboards just don’t do it for me. So I finally broke down and brought one yesterday. Now I’ve been enjoying my new keyboard and finding any excuse to do some typing…which is why you find a post from me on a weekend!

What else? Oh yeah, I went to see the 49er game at Candlestick Park today…and oh man, talk about torture. It was so depressing. The 49ers didn’t even come close to beating the Seattle Seahawks…a team now tied with the 49ers…at an impressive 2-5 record. Psh…it was horrible. With the firing of Nolan early last week and the 49ers playing the Seahawks (the one team with a record worse than the 49ers) this week, this game was suppose to be, at least, a close and exciting game…well, that was definitely not the case. OK I can’t talk about this anymore.

Overall, it was another great weekend.

Happy Weekend

After a horrendously long week of work, I'm ready to begin my weekend. Well to tell you the truth, I was ready to begin my weekend on Monday, so this feeling is long overdue. I packed this weekend with tons of fun things to do and plan to enjoy every second of it. I just hope the weather will hold up its end of the bargain and stay relatively nice...please.

Man, this last week at work has been totally crazy. Working consecutive days with extremely long hours, is absolutely horrible. It really didn't matter how prepared I thought I was for this week because it was pure torture. I mean, I knew this week was going to be long and crazy...so it should have made things easier to deal with...but no, I was so wrong. Aww well, it's over now. I guess I can just be glad for that.

It'll be nice to enjoy this weekend...feeling like I really earned it this time. Ha! Actually, I can't remember a time when I didn't look forward to a weekend. I guess that's because I don't think I've ever really had a bad weekend...is that even possible? Not that I know of. I mean, you can have a great weekend, a relaxing weekend...and even a quiet and mundane weekend...but a bad weekend, I don't think so. Weekends are meant to be enjoyed...and trust me, I enjoy my weekends. OK I've gone on long enough...

Bring on the weekend...

Beautiful Sight

On my way to work this morning, I saw the most gorgeous sunrise. It’s not too often that I’m awestruck so early in the morning, and on my way to work no less, but be that as it may, it was pretty amazing.

I found myself actually enjoying the commute since the scenery was so perfect. Living in an urban environment, it’s definitely hard to find those pristine moments when you realize that life around you can be just about perfect. Wow…did I actually say that? That doesn’t sound like something I would say does it? Hm…weird.

Well it was one of those rare moments when I wished that my commute was longer so I could spend time enjoying the scenery. And it would have been nice to have a camera with me and a way to take pictures without causing an accident. But alas, I guess I have to make do with a mental photograph and be happy with that.

Long Week

It was only two weeks ago that I faced 2 13-hour days in a week...so how come I find myself facing 3 13-hour days this week? Yeah, I have no idea either.

After another relaxing weekend, I can't say that I'm all that excited about returning to work this upcoming week. But can you really blame me? Again, I say that I am compensated for working overtime...but you know what? Sometimes it's really just not worth it. I swear, my mental well-being is at stake this week. These past few weeks have been busy, but I've been amazingly calm (for the most part) and happy. I like being happy. But with a busy week approaching, I'm not sure I'm going to be in the best of moods. Don't say that I didn't warn you.

Speaking of the best of my moods, let me get on my soapbox for just a second. Why do people insist on coming into work when they are sick? I've been on this tirade for the past week now and it still frustrates me. There are people at the office who insist on coming into work when they are sick. This baffles me...well no, it infuriates me. I work for an agency that actually provides time strictly for sick leave...which, should in theory, encourage people to take leave when they are sick as opposed to lowering the productivity of the entire agency by infecting the rest of the staff. Arg. With that said, I have my own selfish reason, I don't want to get sick. Is that such a hard concept to grasp? Why does that make me the bad guy? You know what, don't answer that...because I don't care. Why should I have to be ok with being around people who are sick...? Trust me, I'm not.

Where was I? Oh yeah...this coming week. I am already looking forward to the upcoming weekend. Let's get this week over with.

Totally Relaxing Weekend

You'd be surprised what a 4-day weekend would do for you. It was completely awesome. I caught up on some much needed sleep and relaxation. And let me tell you, it was really nice to not have a care in the world. And, of course, any excuse I have to turn off my phones, is a good enough reason for me.

After working two 13 hour days last week, having a nice long weekend was just the cure I needed to get myself back into the swing of things. Most of the time, my long work hours don't really bother me...since I'm compensated fairly well, I enjoy the company of the people I work with...and to tell you the truth, I like what I do (for the most part). But last week was rip-my-hair-out crazy and up-to-my-eyeballs in work, so it was a little harder to keep myself zen. And as you know, I've been trying really hard to keep myself relaxed. I think I've been a doing a fairly good job of that too, by the way. But I digress.

As for today, ask me what I did today? Go ahead, I dare you. Well, I did abso-freakin'-lutely nothing. It was great. I spent some time watching some of my dvds, reading my magazines and then taking a nice long walk through the City. And since enough people have to work today, there was a nice blend of people on the streets without too many cranky work people getting in my way. Plus, it's always a great feeling to know that every other sucker is at work, while I'm enjoying my day off. So I'm extremely relaxed...so why haven't I done this before? Oh yeah, work...right.

Well tomorrow I return to work refreshed and ready to take on the endless piles of work that will inevitably be waiting for me. The thing that will probably keep me feeling relaxed is knowing that this is a 4-day work week and I get paid on Friday. Sweet!

Fleet Week

After a completely busy and crazy week, guess what we all have to look forward to this weekend? Oh ok, so I already gave it away…but it’s Fleet Week in San Francisco! I love Fleet Week…well more specifically, I love the Blue Angels.

The Blue Angels practice flights start on tomorrow afternoon and I guess I’ll be finding myself on the roof of my building for most of it. Other air show participants begin practicing on Friday afternoon and all the air shows take place this weekend…too bad I won’t be in the City on Friday or Saturday. That truly is a shame since I think I missed the practice sessions and shows last year too.

You know, even if you were one of those people who spends every year complaining about the noise and commotion due to Fleet Week and the Blue Angels, you’d still have to admit that watching them perform (or even practice) is pretty awe-inspiring. They are just so cool to watch. Now, I wouldn’t pay for a grandstand seat to watch the Blue Angels, since there are plenty of other spots around the City that I can get perfectly good views of the Blue Angels for free. But it’s still awesome to watch the Blue Angels when they come into town.

So people, bring out your cameras, put your ear plugs in, and tilt your head up towards the sky and let’s all enjoy the Blue Angels.

California Academy of Sciences

The California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park opened a few weekends ago after being under renovation since 2005. I heard people have been flocking to the Academy for the past few weeks trying to get a coveted look inside at the newly renovated building and astounding exhibits.

The Academy is free to the public on the third Wednesday of each month (which, I’m sure, means that everyone and their mother will be there trying to get in). Normally the regular adult admission price is $25…not that it’s terribly expensive, but it’s not cheap either. So I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet one of these days and plan on taking a day off and paying $25 to get a peek at the Academy.

On the top of my list is the aquarium exhibits, the four-story rainforest display and…well just looking at the architecture of the new building…I hear it’s amazing. As for when I’m hoping to go…the sooner the better, although I think everyone is thinking the same thing, so it might be awhile. When I go, I actually want to be able to see the exhibits, as opposed to having to fight through throngs of people to simply touch the railing.

Aw well…those are my thoughts for today. If you can get me secret clearance into the building...or just want to go, let me know.

Cell Phone Clean-Up

I was browsing through my address book in my cell phone last night and realized it is jam packed with people/numbers that I don’t even use. I hate it when I need to quickly make a call and have to spend more time combing through my address book trying to find a specific contact than I would actually spend on the phone. So I started the process of deleting contacts from my phone.

You know, deleting people from my phone was a hard process…harder than I thought it would be. I had a hard time deciding whether someone should stay or go. I mean, I had to decide whether I would ever (realistically) hear from any of these people again and/or whether I still cared. For example, I found a contact who I haven’t spoken to in, at least, 5 years. I’m pretty sure that if I dropped off the face of the earth tomorrow, he would never know. So…gone. On the other hand, I found another contact who I haven’t spoken to in a few years, but if the opportunity should arise, I wouldn’t hesitate to keep in contact with her. So…she stays. So the process went on for awhile until I made it through almost 200 people. I managed to cut my address book into almost half…which is awesome.
