Holiday Hiatus

It's that time of year again...I'm in need of a break from this blog in order to enjoy the holiday season, so my blog will be on hiatus until sometime after the new year.

Until then, I hope to upload some pictures to my photo page prior to my return, so feel free to check those out. I look forward to returning in 2013.

Happy holidays to everyone and enjoy the New Year!

Cravings

I am the first one to admit that on any given day, I crave the foods of three pregnant women. Now, that’s not to say that I always indulge in my cravings and give in to my need to stuff my face all day long (although, how wonderful would that be?). However, I’m just saying…not a moment seems to go by that I’m not thinking about food, where I can go to get food and the next time I am going to be able to eat food. Seriously, in my past life I must’ve been a huge freakin’ gorilla eating anything and everything in sight. Now isn’t that a lovely mental image? Haha.

Anyway, my point in this post is not how much of a fatass I can/want to be…although, that is going to be up for debate pretty soon if I don’t change my eating habits and hit the gym in the new year…however, my point is that in the midst of the holiday season and party functions galore, I seem to be no longer craving anything…and I’m at a loss as to what to do with myself. I know, this is a problem that I never have. But I can safely say that I’m not craving burritos, sushi, nachos, burgers…which are (typically) staples in my brain that help me determine my next dining destination. Haha…so what do I do now…?

Ideally, this should make my New Year’s resolution of bringing my lunch, saving money and hitting the gym…much easier. Note to self, must remember this feeling in the New Year.

Fruitcake

What is the fascination with fruitcake? Seriously, there seems to be a fruitcake at every one of the holiday functions that I’ve been to…and I just don’t get it.

I admit that during random holiday potlucks, you can find some weird foods just hanging around the table waiting for people to dive right in. And hey, I’m all for food and indulging during the holidays…but man, waste your calories on something good. So again…what is up with fruitcake?

Gift Wrapping

I’m a gift wrapping pro! After spending most of yesterday afternoon wrapping the holiday gifts I got for everyone, I must deem myself a freakin’ master. I inspected each gift and found that the edges are perfect, the creases are straight and the ends actually match. Well…minus a couple gifts I had to wrap in newspaper because the boxes were ill shaped…but other than that, perfect! Haha. :-)

Every year I dutifully wrap my parents’ and my brother’s gifts…and my mom usually takes care of wrapping the rest of my gifts. I would insist on wrapping more of the gifts myself…but there are just so many of them and she does such an awesome job. You hear that mother…? I said you do an AWESOME job! Hehe. Well, this year…I wanted to do them ALL by myself. It took me most of the afternoon (good thing the Niner game was on to entertain me), but I got it all done. And they look freakin’ spectacular. I almost don’t want to give them away. Ha!

So this year, when opening my gift…pay close attention to the wrap job…it’s freakin’ amazing.

Holiday Joys

We are smack in the middle of the holiday season…and it’s really hard not to be excited and happy. I mean, what’s not to enjoy? You get to go to a lot of parties, you get to reconnect with a lot of people and you get to eat tons of food. Seriously, what more is there?

However, there is a downside to the holiday season. I know you must find it hard to believe…but trust me, a downside does exist. During the holiday season, I find it freakin’ impossible to eat healthy, find time to exercise and be able to save money. Seriously, it’s all nearly impossible.

Let’s start with eating healthy…with all the holiday parties, work functions, white elephant gift exchanges, potlucks, etc. I find myself at, how can I be expected to stick to my diet and eat healthy? Have you not seen the foods at these events? It’s a fat kids’ heaven! And during this time of year, it’s really hard to turn down all the really good food at all these parties and just drink water and snack on carrot sticks. I mean, it’s almost rude not to eat. So…I eat.

That brings me to the problem of exercise …all this eating and indulging would not be a problem if I had time to hit the gym. However, there is no time to hit the gym during the holidays. Yes, I’m totally serious…no time whatsoever. Because at what point between now and the end of the year is there time to hit the gym? Between work functions, holiday parties…seeing family and friends…there is no freakin’ time. So my exercise regime and my gym visits will have to wait until the New Year. Man, I hope my clothes still fit by then.

And lastly, there is my savings plan. Yes, I do try to save money…contrary to popular belief. However, saving money is so hard to do during the holidays when I have presents to buy for family and friends. Despite (almost) having a heart attack looking at the list of people I had to shop for this year, I’m proud to say that I’m almost done with my holiday shopping. Yeah, I know…it’s almost unheard of that I’m not done with my holiday shopping yet. But don’t worry, I have sworn that I will have everything completed by this weekend. And hopefully the final year-end total will not send me into a cardiac arrest. Hopefully.

So...I guess, in conclusion, despite all my happy go-lucky holiday cheer…I see my top three New Year’s resolutions already in the making.

Meaning of Your Life

Everyone is always searching for their meaning of life…their purpose in the world…their reason for existence. It’s hard to figure out what you want out of life, what you hope to accomplish and what you hope to experience. So any help in that arena is (usually) greatly appreciated. Sooo...I got one of those email blast chain letter things (which, by the way, I think is so 1990s), with a way to help you determine what factors in your life you consider to be most important.

According to the image below, the things I want in life are love, friends and happiness…um yeah, I guess, that's about right. Check it out and let me know if it’s true for you:
