Happy Turkey Day

Amidst all the family good cheer and anticipation of the upcoming holiday season, I hope everyone is enjoying a very Happy Thanksgiving.

To me, Thanksgiving is the best time of year. It’s a celebration that includes food and football. I mean really, it’s the greatest reason to throw a celebration…well next to the Super Bowl, of course. :) No seriously, Thanksgiving consists of food that I don’t see too often at my dinner table. Turkey, I mean really, who eats turkey for dinner when you can have chicken…or steak…or pork ribs…yum. As “bad” of a time of year it is for turkeys, it’s really the only time that they get any attention at all. If turkey wasn’t the main dish of Thanksgiving, a turkey would be like…pigeons…over populating the earth and the scum of the poultry family…but I digress. Next is stuffing. I love stuffing! And on a regular basis, who would eat stuffing when you could eat rice. I mean really, there is just no contest. But once a year, when I have to smell the turkey roasting in the oven and the stuffing simmering on the stove, I’ll eat anything and learn to enjoy it. As for pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes, I could do without it. But Thanksgiving is about the abundant amounts of food and days spent eating leftovers and dreading the next Thanksgiving where you swear not to overeat…But just knowing that Thanksgiving makes it acceptable, tradition even, to watch football and eat all day, is reason enough to enjoy the celebration all the more. :)

I know it’s tradition to go around and say what you are thankful for right before you eat pounds of food that you end up complaining about tomorrow…but again, I digress…so I will begin by saying that I am thankful for good health and happiness. I guess that’s a little boring and I am sure that’s what everyone says (its like being in a beauty pageant and saying you wish for world peace…I mean really, come on, your wish is to win this competition, you could care less about world peace…but whatever).

Anyway, as this year draws to a close, I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving and good holiday cheer.

Incommunicado

Let me ask you a question. Do you remember the days when you didn’t have to constantly check your email? A day when you could attend a movie or a show without having to be reminded to turn off any electrical devices? A pleasant day when you could sit in a nice restaurant with your friend and not have to glare at the insanely rude person next to you talking so loudly on their cell phone that you can’t even think? Yeah, I remember those days fondly (granted I was only like 10 maybe 15, but still…) and I miss them.

For the last few weeks, I have had the distinct pleasure to experience those days once again. For those of you who really don’t understand how much we depend on cell phones and emails used to keep us in communication with each other, you can’t really appreciate the pleasure of being able to turn your head to those devices and ignore their existence. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I understand and appreciate the benefits of having an email account (billions of them) and a cell phone (which no one seems to lose the number to). But really, to have the freedom to turn your cell phone off and refuse to check your email, is just the best feeling ever! I highly recommend cutting yourself off from the world. And I don’t mean unplugging your landline phone or throwing your computer out the window (although wouldn’t that be fun), I mean being able to consciously turn your cell phone off and refuse to check your email and just enjoy a simpler life. Let me just say that it is great!

And now if you will excuse me, I must return to reply to the piles of email waiting for me in my inbox and the constant annoying attachment to my ringing cell phone.
