The End of the World Cup

Yesterday the World Cup came to an end with Italy beating France during a penalty shot showdown after the game stayed tied for well over an hour. It was an exciting game and an eventful match up between the Italians and Frenchmen.

Now, I have been reading some newspapers, web articles and watching sports wrap-up shows about the World Cup and you know what’s really annoying? Hearing commentators as, “Hey, we [the United States] tied Italy, the World Cup champs. Not too shabby, eh?” Um…hello, a tie in the first round means nothing. The United States still got eliminated in the first round, correct? Yeah, somehow it’s the same to say that because the United States tied Italy during the beginning of the competition, the U.S. did alright. Yeah, ok.

And in a bizarre footnote: Zinedine Zidane, France's veteran player who got red carded and kicked out of the final for head-butting somebody and basically killing his team's chances at winning the World Cup, got the Golden Ball Award for World Cup MVP. WHAT??? You’ve got to be kidding me!!!
