Final Four

Although it was an outstanding game between Georgetown and North Carolina, I can’t explain how bummed I was that Georgetown prevailed. Typically, I would be all over an underdog win, a David and Goliath story that touches us all and blah blah blah...but since some of my coworkers are all about Georgetown...I’m definitely not.

And now we are down to the Final Four. Florida, UCLA, Georgetown and Ohio State. Since Florida is still in, I’m very hopeful that they will be able to take it all the way...please, please, please. But short of that, it’s Florida against my regional favorite UCLA. What is a girl to choose? Since Ohio State kicked Memphis (my second choice) out...I’m looking for ways to save my bracket. If anything, it'll make for a more interesting week, if nothing else.

I had this long conversation with my cousin last night and his choice pick was Kansas. He had them going all the way!! Can you believe that?? Let me just point out for the record that they do this every single year (or so my brother tells me). They're always really balanced, they peak at the right time, and then they crap the bed in the tournament. It's the Jayhawk tradition.

Since Memphis is out and I’m solely relying on Florida to save my bracket from a pitiful death, I wonder why I even care so much about these damn things? I mean, why did I pick Memphis to get to the finals? What do I know about Memphis? And the Gators...? Don’t get me started on them.

So what was I talking about? Oh, right, go Gators!!!

Madness Update

I had a chance to watch some of the games this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the games streamed over the internet. I wonder which company is in charge of managing the hosts for the streamed videos, because they did an awesome job and deserve major props. Anyway, I digress, I collected some thoughts that I will now regurgitate in bullet-style fashion. Without further ado:

-First off, how happy were you all that Duke got knocked out in the first round? I was stoked. And they were knocked out by VCU by all teams…not that that’s bad or anything…just making a comment. So all hail the demiss of Duke. I can’t tell you how happy that makes me.

-This year I’m faced with a few crazy Georgetown and Kansas fans. I’m a little worried since I’m not very confident that Kansas will make it to the Elite Eight and I have Georgetown getting eliminated before the Final Four. So let’s just say that for the amount of trash talk that I have been dishing out about Kansas and Georgetown, I hope they both get eliminated and eliminated soon.

-Sweet Sixteen is around the corner and I still have 11 teams in the running, which is pretty good if I say so myself. Although, I was very surprised that Old Dominon and Davidson didn’t make it past the first round…that really screwed up the midwest portion of my bracket. As for all the other teams on my bracket, all is calm. UNC, Memphis, Florida and UCLA are doing well.

-Being in California and all, I feel at a slight disadvantage since the only team that I can reasonably bandwagon on for regional loyalty issues is UCLA. Not that I am complaining…just making a comment. I mean, Stanford never really had a chance to make it past the first round against Louisville last week, and short of that, there are no more teams representing California…I mean, all the good teams are where? North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois…Kansas…psh please.

-Lastly, speaking of brackets, I'm actually in pretty decent shape. Of course, all my teams will lose now that I say that, but it's still nice. I already posted my final four teams in a previous post, and as you can see, I’m doing alright.

Long live the power of March Madness and the lack of productivity it produces.

Not In Disney's Neighborhood

Since March Madness begins at the end of the week, I have to post a non-basketball related post for all of you not following the games. FYI, I’m done with my bracket and am ready for the games to begin.

There is a proposal to build 1,500 condos for low-to-middle-income familier near the entrance to Disneyland in southern California. Many of the condos could be used as housing for the many Disneyland employees who can't afford to live in the immediate area and must commute long distances. But Disneyland is suing to stop the project.

A Disney official called it "a very dangerous precedent, because once you allow one residential development in, where does it stop? We will do all we can to protect the value of the resort area." Well, you know what? I agree. Because, you let these people into the neighborhood, and next thing you know, they're setting up a freakin’ strip mall inside Cinderella's castle. People are sleeping inside the tea cups. There's little poor kids running around outside the front gate trying to sell the customers fake jewerly or whatever. I mean, they'll be washing their clothes in the It's A Small World river. That's a little too small of a world if you ask me. Seriously. You give these people an inch, and they take a mile. Keeping them poor, displaced, and disgruntled is the best situation for everybody. Trust me.

Overall, it's just nice to see someone take a stand. So kudos, Disney. Kudos. You have a certain level of class to maintain. Am I right? So fire up the Dumbo Flier and let's all go for a money ride!

I Love March

So after a lengthy Chinese New Year hiatus, I’m back and ready to continue my, somewhat, weekly blogs. I know that you all missed me (hi Mom) and my exciting ranting and ravings...hahaha.

March is officially here and you all know what that means. Daylight Savings Time, my birthday (shameless plug, I know) and March Madness all occur in the same week. I’m so excited! Time to par-tay!

We start off the week with Daylight Savings Time. I love Daylight Savings Time, who doesn’t? I mean, what’s not to love? The nights get shorter and the days get longer. Spring is here. It’s great. And this year, its a few weeks early... hallelujah!

And then there is the issue of my birthday. To celebrate or not to celebrate, that is the question. I mean, anything after...ahem...my mid-20s, it’s all downhill from there, right? Nothing worth celebrating after that, I just want to crawl under a rock and hope that I get to live forever. No offense to those over...um...26.

Last but not least, March Madness. Seriously, I have been chopping at the bit waiting to fill out my bracket. Games start next week and I am itching to take the world by storm with my winning bracket. It should be a blast since extra games will be available via the internet.

Bring on next week.
