Unprepared
Just as the holidays and the end of the year kinda snuck up on me last year, Chinese New Year is no different. It seems that I blinked a little too long when I returned from NYC and found that it’s time to celebrate another holiday…absolutely lovely. When the Lunar Calendar cooperates and Chinese New Year is in February…there is, at least, a little breather between the holidays and New Year festivities before having to roll into Chinese New Year mode. Well apparently I can’t enjoy that luxury this year.
Overall, there is just something about the beginning of the year that just isn’t as exciting as end of the year festivities. I mean, aside from Chinese New Year…and well, my birthday, look at the holidays/celebrations to choose from during the beginning of the year…Martin Luther King’s Birthday, Valentine’s Day,…and all the Presidents’ Day….oh joy. Don’t get me wrong, these are all great times to enjoy a nice long weekend and some time away from work…but in terms of just getting excited about the holidays themselves…eh, it really doesn’t do anything for me. On the flip side, let’s compare that to the end of the year…Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve…yeah, there’s no real contest there.
Anyway, back to Chinese New Year. So Monday is the big day…and I’m totally not prepared. I don’t have any new clothes ready to wear this Monday, I haven’t really done too much cleaning, and I don’t have that much family time planned. If you are unfamiliar with Chinese New Year traditions…the fact that I can’t check any of these off of my list as of yet…is a big no-no.
On that note, here’s to a relaxing and productive weekend.
