Admire My Restraint

So as most of you know, my commute to work consists of a nice 15-minute walk through the City. I pass many things on that walk to work - smelly homeless people on the streets, the nasty diesel fumes coming from those ugly Muni buses...and a bakery that always has the smell of freshly baked donuts wafting from its store. I'm sure you know which topic I'm going to be talking about...yup, that's right...the donuts.

Again, as most of you know, I'm trying to watch what I eat to keep myself healthy and in tip-top shape for the upcoming summer months. The hardest thing that I've encountered is eliminating (none of this portion control business...I'm going cold turkey) the excess fat and sugars from my diet...it's definitely not the easiest thing to do...let me be the first to tell you that. I've always been a fan of food...any type of food, but sugars and sweets have always had a special place in my heart. I have a huge weakness for desserts. Huge weakness. Not being able to eat candy, cake, brownies, cookies, donuts, etc. has been killing me slowly. I mean, considering how much sugar and sweets I ate on a daily basis...was actually quite scary. So it's probably not such a bad thing that I'm trying to watch what I eat and how much sugar I force my system to process. With that said, it's pure torture. Absolute torture. Because I love sweets and desserts of all kinds...it's definitely testing my will power to eliminate it completely from my diet. It bodes well that I'm a mildly competitive person and see this as a challenge that I just need to conquer...until, well, let’s say, Labor Day...then all will be right in the world. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah...donuts this morning.

Oh man, I was walking to work like I normally do every morning, but for some reason...the smell of those donuts was just so enticing that I could swear they were calling my name. I actually stopped in front of the store window and gazed at the donuts. I looked at them longingly while they mocked me. It was truly heartbreaking. And get this, the lady behind the counter even offered me a free sample...she picked up half of a donut and waved me in. Amazingly enough, I smiled, waved and kept on walking...only to see a nasty, dirty and ugly looking pigeon enjoy the crumbs of a donut two steps away from me...that bastard. But yeah, can you believe that? I turned down a free sample. I restrained myself from a donut. And I angrily tried to kick a pigeon. Yeah, I know...I'm going crazy. I swear, the lack of sugar is messing with my system. What is happening to me?

Kill me now...please.
