I Have Returned
I spent a couple days in NYC. I went to see the US Open in Flushing Meadows and was lucky enough to have seen Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic play (two people we've actually heard of and, of course, they both won so...wahoo). So that was super fun. Then I got to visit the new Yankee stadium and see the Yankees take on the Toronto Blue Jays...and let me tell you, their new stadium is pretty awesome. It was everything I imagined it would be. Hehe. But, yes, it really was truly gorgeous.
After my few days in NYC, I headed up to Ottawa and then made my way to Toronto. Ottawa was ok. A somewhat quiet government town...the best thing I remember was the food. Oh man, I enjoyed a nice big order of Poutine (who would've thought that French fries covered in beef gravy and cheese curds could be so good) and an order of Guinness beef stew (which was also pretty good). Oh and, of course, a nice sweet beaver tail to finish off the meal...I'm drooling right now just thinking about it.
Anyway, let's see...while I was in Toronto, I went up to admire the view from the CN Tower (which was super cool), I visited the Toronto Islands (not much to speak of since the weather wasn't ideal), saw the Blue Jays whoop on the Texas Rangers (compared to the new Yankees' stadium, the Rogers Center was a piece of crap), saw some of the festivities from the Toronto Film Festival (would've been more awesome if I went to Toronto a week later so I could've seen more of the movies, but whatever), and then spent a day exploring Niagara Falls (it truly is one of the great wonders of the world). Sooo I have nothing but positive things to say about Canada. Hehe.
After my time in Canada, I headed back to NYC just in time for Sept 11th. I got to check out all the ceremonies that took place to commemorate Sept 11th and it was all very sad and somber. But I've gotta say, looking at the lights from the twin towers is pretty amazing.
On a side note, let me just say that while I was in Canada, there was a huge gas explosion in San Bruno (as I'm sure you've all seen on the news)...literally down the street from my parents' house. And, I guess, the main reason for my post today is to let everyone know that things are ok with me and the family (thanks for all the calls of concern). I can't tell you how frustrating it was to be in Toronto (with no working cell phone network available) and see my hometown headlining the national news covered by a huge ball of fire. It was crazy. It was a mighty good thing that I was headed back into the US that day because I was going stir crazy not being able to use my phone. But, fortunately, I was able to reach home and hear that everything was ok with the family and the house...phew.
Well...this has turned into a super duper long post...I have a long week ahead of me but hey, you know me, I'll have pictures up soon. :-)
